Greg Tibbetts case: Vicksburg superintendent reflects on ‘devastating’ crime

VICKSBURG, MI — The Vicksburg community has been “devastated” by a sexual abuse case involving a Vicksburg teenager and Greg Tibbetts, a former middle school principal, and officials have taken steps to prevent a similar situation from ever re-occurring, Superintendent Charles Glaes said.

Tibbetts, who resigned from Vicksburg Community Schools shortly after his arrest in the fall of 2012, pleaded guilty April 14 to second-degree criminal sexual conduct and misdemeanor embezzlement. He was sentenced to 18 months to 15 years in prison.

“I’m relieved the justice system has taken care of it,” Glaes said. “But there’s no joy, considering the pain inflicted on so many people — the victim and his family, the Tibbetts family and so many who feel betrayed.”
