Malloy offers advice for hurricane season

With the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season beginning Sunday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is reminding Connecticut residents to be prepared. The season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, with the principal threat to Connecticut from mid-August to mid-October.
“Every home should have a basic emergency plan that can be used for any emergency,” Malloy said in a release. “I urge residents to know what potential risks your community and neighborhood may face, such as storm surge, flooding, road or bridge closures.”
Dora B. Schriro, commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, told residents, “Get a kit, make a plan and stay informed. Carefully monitor weather reports and promptly follow instructions from public safety officials if a storm approaches.”
Emergency preparedness tips include organizing a basic emergency supply kit.
